John Mathew, the deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Nasarawa State has appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to include Nasarawa in the arrangements to distribute Permanent Voters Card, PVC, to Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.

Mr. Mathew told journalists on Monday in Lafia that INEC should also ensure that those who participated in the newly continues voters registration (CVR) were not disenfranchised.

“The qualification to participate in the election is the attainment of the voting age and all those who have taken advantage of the window of opportunity offered by INEC to be registered be allowed to vote at the election even if their Permanent Voters Cards are not ready,” Mr. Mathew said. “If it is possible, the most desirable option is for INEC to arrange and let the newly registered voters have their PVCs immediately. However, if it proved impracticable, INEC must make exception in respect to the new registrars otherwise the registration would have no meaning. To every general rule there must be an exception.”

He appealed to all registered voters to go get their PVCs in order to participate in the fourth coming election.

He called on the federal government to deploy adequate security to all the crises ravaged communities in the state to enable the people participate in the general election and not to be disenfranchised by their circumstance.

On the recent skirmish in Jos where President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign vehicle were burnt, Mr. Mathew noted that such packets of action were to be expected under the circumstance.

“However, it is a call on the security to be more alert in monitoring the activities of people who are bent in causing troubles ahead of the election,” he said.
